… and back again

It’s been a while.

The silence of this website can easily be explained by words that will be readily understood by parents: small children.

However I intend on 2026 being an exciting year for my writing. There will be more on that to come, but I’ll be discussing some future projects in more detail, including one that will be published later this year!

Also, I didn’t completely vanished off the face of the earth since 2023 and the last post here. In fact, I had three short stories published at Metastellar, Aurealis and Bauble from Bones. If you’re interested in those works, here’s a little summary of each:

The Loch Langaig Connection

The Loch Langaig Connection was published in May 2025 in Issue 5 of Bauble from Bones.

I really love this story, combining a lot of things I like, such as the Isle of Skye and old Faerie lore. At the forefront of the story is the relationship between a young woman, Cassandra, and a faerie named Brid (not Bird, that’s important) as they both try to navigate their own worlds. Their relationship is frustrated, though, by the ever shifting faerie doors that reside on Skye. There are endless seas, strange castles, hovering constellations, and a lot of camping.

The Cloth Wall

The Cloth Wall was published also in May 2025 in Issue 180 of Aurealis.

I continue to owe Aurealis for consistently taking a punt on their readers liking my work. The Cloth Wall harkens back to my earlier story, The Glassblower’s Peace, to the extent that in my mind it’s basically a spiritual prequel, existing in the same world, but earlier in history. The English have come to the gates of the city of Ypres, renowned for its cloth, and in this version of the world, if your city is famous for something it’s because it’s just a wee bit magical. An English knight, sworn to destroy the city, is instead left grappling with honour, ambition and loyalty to an old woman of immense talent who has woven a tapestry that combine their fates.

The Shipping Forecast

The Shipping Forecast was published in May 2024 (something about May?) in Metastellar.

This story is a simple one, and yet incredibly fun to write. I hope it might be fun to read. The BBC’s Shipping Forecast is a British institution in of itself, which its own rhythm and code. But what if the world got a little bit strange? Well, the Shipping Forecast would continue, even to the end of one world and the birth of the next.

Otherwise, watch this space. There’s more to come.
